Ed Pikar, a 1957 graduate of the Cincinnati Art Academy with honors in design and photography, launched his freelance career as an interior designer. To keep the home fires burning at the time, he took on assignments in photography as well. Pikar's work began to appear in various publications including Life, Look, House and Home, Farm Quarterly, Ebony, etc. Meanwhile, always building his interior design business, a decision had to be made between the two, photography or interior design. Design won out and for thirty years a very successful career was built. Over these many years, working in various forms of art, another career began to develop with the medium of colored pencil, along with a great desire to capture our depleting wildlife in a different way. And so Portraits of the Wild was conceived. This project was developed into a full time career. Pikar gradually departed from his interior design business because of the demand for his art. Pikar loves to work in many mediums and styles. Presently his landscape paintings have drawn a good deal of interest. He feels the creation of artistic function should never be restricted in any way. After all, beautiful things in life are achieved by freedom of thought expression. Viewers are taken back with the many styles of Pikar’s work, and he leaves the rest to the viewers who must judge for themselves. |
